About the tune
This is a traditional English carol from the West Country, sung by carollers who asked for figgy pudding in return. The tune is in a bouncy three-beat rhythm and uses mostly steps and small skips, so it is easy to learn. Our arrangement is an original, simplified one for learning.
How it is arranged here
The arrangement is simplified for learning and is written in 3/4 time at about 120 beats per minute. It has about 8 bars and 32 steps in Any-key mode, where one press plays the whole step. The right hand has 30 notes and the left hand has 32. The lowest note is C2 and the highest is C5.
How to learn it
- Open the song and choose Watch to see and hear it once.
- Switch to Follow. The song waits for you to press each lit key, so there is no timing pressure.
- When Follow feels easy, try Play along and aim for 90% or better. The speed dial lets you start slow, and the coach loops any bars that gave you trouble.
Practice tips
- The tune starts on a short lead-in note before the first beat. Count 1-2-3 from the next note.
- The ending rises and falls in a pattern that repeats. Once you hear the pattern, you can predict the lit keys.
Is it free to use and share?
It is a traditional carol with no known author, so it is in the public domain. Our arrangement is simplified, and it is written for practice rather than as a published edition. See our guide to public-domain music for what that means.
